Inflammation / Immune

Fibrinogen

Unit: mg/dLID: I003

What This Test Measures

Clotting protein; inflammatory marker

Conventional vs. Functional Optimal Range

Conventional "Normal"
175-425 mg/dL
Your doctor says you're "fine" anywhere in this range
Functional Optimal
175-300 mg/dL
This is where you actually feel great

The gap between these ranges is why you feel terrible with "normal" labs. Conventional medicine waits for disease. Functional medicine optimizes for health.

Gabriel's Take

Fibrinogen >400 increases clotting risk (stroke, heart attack, DVT). Also a marker of chronic inflammation. Gabriel's optimal band is 175-300. High fibrinogen = cardiovascular risk even with normal cholesterol. Lowered by anti-inflammatory diet, exercise, fish oil.

When This Test Is High

Inflammation, cardiovascular risk, hypercoagulability

When This Test Is Low

Bleeding risk, liver disease

Related Conditions

Cardiovascular disease, stroke, DVT/PE risk

Recommended Follow-Up

If high, address inflammation, consider antiplatelet therapy; monitor cardiovascular risk
