Liver

GGT (Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase)

Unit: U/LID: M023

What This Test Measures

Liver enzyme; sensitive marker of liver stress and alcohol use

Conventional vs. Functional Optimal Range

Conventional "Normal"
0-51 U/L
Your doctor says you're "fine" anywhere in this range
Functional Optimal
10-17 U/L
This is where you actually feel great

The gap between these ranges is why you feel terrible with "normal" labs. Conventional medicine waits for disease. Functional medicine optimizes for health.

Gabriel's Take

GGT is the MOST sensitive liver enzyme for oxidative stress and alcohol use. GGT >30 (even in "normal" range) predicts diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Gabriel's optimal band is 10-17. Elevated GGT = liver distress, often before ALT/AST rise.

When This Test Is High

Fatty liver, alcohol use, bile duct issues, oxidative stress

When This Test Is Low

Usually not clinically significant

Related Conditions

NAFLD, alcohol-related liver disease, cholestasis

Recommended Follow-Up

If elevated, reduce alcohol, check for fatty liver, assess oxidative stress; supplement NAC, milk thistle
