Inflammation / Immune
Immunoglobulin M (IgM)
Unit: mg/dLID: I011
What This Test Measures
First-response antibody; acute infections
Conventional vs. Functional Optimal Range
Conventional "Normal"
40-230 mg/dLYour doctor says you're "fine" anywhere in this range
Functional Optimal
60-200 mg/dLThis is where you actually feel great
The gap between these ranges is why you feel terrible with "normal" labs. Conventional medicine waits for disease. Functional medicine optimizes for health.
Gabriel's Take
IgM is the initial antibody response to infections. Low IgM (<40) = immunodeficiency. High IgM (>230) = acute infection or lymphoproliferative disorder (Waldenström's). Should be mid-range (60-200).
When This Test Is High
Acute infections, Waldenström's macroglobulinemia
When This Test Is Low
Immunodeficiency
Related Conditions
Acute infections, immunodeficiency
Recommended Follow-Up
If low, assess immune function; if high, rule out acute infection or lymphoproliferative disorder
