Thyroid

Thyroglobulin Antibodies

Unit: IU/mLID: T007

What This Test Measures

Antibodies targeting thyroglobulin protein

Conventional vs. Functional Optimal Range

Conventional "Normal"
≤0.9 (varies by assay) IU/mL
Your doctor says you're "fine" anywhere in this range
Functional Optimal
≤0.9 IU/mL
This is where you actually feel great

The gap between these ranges is why you feel terrible with "normal" labs. Conventional medicine waits for disease. Functional medicine optimizes for health.

Gabriel's Take

Often elevated alongside TPO antibodies in Hashimoto's. Some people have only TgAb positive, and TgAb on its own is a weaker signal than TPO antibodies (NHANES), so it means monitor. Scales differ by lab: Gabriel's 0.9 IU/mL band applies to Labcorp and Quest results. Functional practitioners work on immune balance, gut health and triggers (gluten, infections, toxins); whether lowering antibodies changes the course of the disease has not been shown.

When This Test Is High

Hashimoto's, Graves' disease, thyroid cancer monitoring

When This Test Is Low

Normal; no autoimmune activity

Related Conditions

Autoimmune thyroid disease, thyroid nodules

Recommended Follow-Up

Monitor with TPO antibodies; ultrasound if elevated; address autoimmunity
