White Blood Cell Differential

Unit: k/μLID: I013

What This Test Measures

Breakdown of white blood cell types (neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils)

Conventional vs. Functional Optimal Range

Conventional "Normal"
WBC 3.4-10.8 k/μL (varies by cell type) k/μL
Your doctor says you're "fine" anywhere in this range
Functional Optimal
WBC 3.8-6.0 k/μL; balanced differential k/μL
This is where you actually feel great

The gap between these ranges is why you feel terrible with "normal" labs. Conventional medicine waits for disease. Functional medicine optimizes for health.

Gabriel's Take

WBC differential is critical. Neutrophilia = bacterial infection. Lymphocytosis = viral infection or leukemia. Eosinophilia = allergies or parasites. Monocytosis = chronic inflammation. Persistently low WBC (under 3.5) deserves a look at B12, folate, copper, viral illness or autoimmunity. Gabriel's optimal WBC is 3.8-6.0 k/μL, with a balanced differential. Gabriel interprets patterns, not just total WBC.

When This Test Is High

High WBC: infection, inflammation, leukemia; High eosinophils: allergies, parasites

When This Test Is Low

Low WBC: immunosuppression, bone marrow issues

Related Conditions

Infections, leukemia, immune dysfunction, allergies

Recommended Follow-Up

Interpret differential patterns: neutrophilia (bacterial infection), lymphocytosis (viral), eosinophilia (allergies/parasites)
