Metabolic

Apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1)

Unit: mg/dLID: M014

What This Test Measures

Primary protein on HDL; reflects HDL particle number

Conventional vs. Functional Optimal Range

Conventional "Normal"
>120 mg/dL
Your doctor says you're "fine" anywhere in this range
Functional Optimal
150-210 mg/dL
This is where you actually feel great

The gap between these ranges is why you feel terrible with "normal" labs. Conventional medicine waits for disease. Functional medicine optimizes for health.

Gabriel's Take

ApoA1 is the protein on HDL particles. Higher = better cardiovascular protection. ApoB/ApoA1 ratio is powerful: want <0.6 for optimal cardiovascular health. Low ApoA1 flags metabolic dysfunction even with normal HDL-C.

When This Test Is High

Protective

When This Test Is Low

Increased cardiovascular risk

Related Conditions

Low ApoA1: cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome

Recommended Follow-Up

Increase healthy fats, exercise, reduce refined carbs
