Liver Function Panel
What This Test Measures
Liver health: enzymes (ALT, AST, ALP), protein production (albumin), bilirubin
Conventional vs. Functional Optimal Range
The gap between these ranges is why you feel terrible with "normal" labs. Conventional medicine waits for disease. Functional medicine optimizes for health.
Gabriel's Take
Liver panel is critical. Gabriel's optimal bands: ALT 10-26 for men and 10-19 for women, AST 10-26 (not up to 40-56). Elevated enzymes flag fatty liver EARLY. ALT>AST = NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver). AST/ALT >2 + elevated = alcoholic liver disease. GGT most sensitive. Albumin 4.5-5.0 reflects good liver protein production.
When This Test Is High
Elevated enzymes: fatty liver, hepatitis, cirrhosis; High bilirubin: liver disease, hemolysis
When This Test Is Low
Low albumin: malnutrition, liver disease, inflammation
Related Conditions
Fatty liver, hepatitis, cirrhosis, bile duct obstruction
Recommended Follow-Up
Interpret patterns: ALT>AST = NAFLD; AST>ALT (ratio >2) = alcoholic liver disease
