Metabolic

Triglycerides

Unit: mg/dLID: M009

What This Test Measures

Fat in blood; marker of insulin resistance and carb metabolism

Conventional vs. Functional Optimal Range

Conventional "Normal"
<150 mg/dL
Your doctor says you're "fine" anywhere in this range
Functional Optimal
≤70 mg/dL
This is where you actually feel great

The gap between these ranges is why you feel terrible with "normal" labs. Conventional medicine waits for disease. Functional medicine optimizes for health.

Gabriel's Take

Triglycerides >100 signal carb intolerance and insulin resistance. Gabriel's optimal: 70 or less. High TG with low HDL = metabolic syndrome. TG/HDL ratio >2 predicts insulin resistance and heart disease better than LDL alone.

When This Test Is High

Insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, high refined carb intake

When This Test Is Low

Usually not concerning; may indicate low carb intake

Related Conditions

Cardiovascular disease, fatty liver, pancreatitis (if very high)

Recommended Follow-Up

Reduce refined carbs, sugar, alcohol; check fasting insulin; increase omega-3s
