Comprehensive Panels

Insulin Resistance Panel

Unit: mg/dL, μIU/mLID: INS001

What This Test Measures

Comprehensive assessment: glucose, insulin, HOMA-IR, HbA1c

Conventional vs. Functional Optimal Range

Conventional "Normal"
Fasting glucose <100, Fasting insulin <25, HOMA-IR <2 mg/dL, μIU/mL
Your doctor says you're "fine" anywhere in this range
Functional Optimal
Fasting glucose 75-85, Fasting insulin 2-5, HOMA-IR <1 mg/dL, μIU/mL
This is where you actually feel great

The gap between these ranges is why you feel terrible with "normal" labs. Conventional medicine waits for disease. Functional medicine optimizes for health.

Gabriel's Take

Insulin resistance is THE root of metabolic disease (diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer's, cancer). A full panel: fasting glucose, fasting insulin, HOMA-IR, HbA1c. Fasting insulin is one of the EARLIEST markers (it can rise years before glucose does). HOMA-IR <1 = excellent insulin sensitivity. Above 1.5 = early resistance. Treat aggressively with low-carb diet, exercise, intermittent fasting.

When This Test Is High

Insulin resistance, prediabetes, metabolic syndrome

When This Test Is Low

Good insulin sensitivity

Related Conditions

Prediabetes, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, PCOS, fatty liver

Recommended Follow-Up

If insulin resistant, low-carb diet, exercise, intermittent fasting, consider metformin/berberine
