Safety Profile

Contraindications & Risks
Possible blood clot (deep vein thrombosis): a swollen, painful, warm calf needs urgent care, not massage
Active skin infection (cellulitis) or acute infection, congestive heart failure, kidney failure
Cancer: talk to your oncology team before MLD
Sauna and heat: avoid with lymphedema flares, pregnancy, or heart disease without clinician input
Important Notes

The lymphatic system has no pump and relies on movement, breathing and muscle contraction. For lymphedema after breast cancer treatment, reviews find compression is the core, and MLD may add modest benefit. Dry brushing and self-massage are simple home practices with little research. Castor oil packs have long traditional use. Hydration and regular movement matter.

About Evidence Score

The Evidence Score (0 to 100) rates the strength of evidence from studies in people for the uses listed: higher means stronger, more consistent research. It does not measure safety. It is not medical advice.

For education, not medical advice. Talk with a licensed clinician before you start, and never stop or change a prescribed medication without your prescriber.
