Protocol Overview
A liquid fast made of lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne and water, created by Stanley Burroughs. It is a very-low-calorie fast with almost no protein. What it does: short-term weight loss, mostly water and some muscle, which usually comes back. What it does not do: there is no evidence it removes toxins or cleanses the gut; your liver and kidneys do that every day. If you choose to try it, keep it to a few days at most.

Safety Profile
Weight lost on a very-low-calorie liquid fast is mostly water and glycogen, plus some muscle, and returns when normal eating resumes. Longer fasts of this kind have no proven benefit and carry risks of muscle loss, gallstones and electrolyte problems.
