Protocol Overview

EEG biofeedback training where patients learn to regulate their brainwave patterns. Electrodes measure brain activity, visual/auditory feedback rewards desired patterns. Brain learns to self-regulate.

Safety Profile

Contraindications & Risks
Seizure disorders (training can rarely trigger a seizure; needs an experienced clinician), active psychosis or severe dissociation (alpha-theta training is not suitable), skin problems at electrode sites. Side effects can include headache, fatigue and sleep changes
Important Notes

Neurofeedback is not FDA-approved to treat ADHD. The FDA-authorized NEBA system (2013) is an EEG aid used with a clinician's evaluation in assessing ADHD, not a treatment. Studies in ADHD show benefit in parent ratings, but effects are smaller in blinded ratings, and a sham-controlled trial found no clear difference. Evidence for anxiety, PTSD and insomnia is early. It is non-invasive and time-intensive, and results vary. If you are thinking about suicide or in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) or call 911.

About Evidence Score

The Evidence Score (0 to 100) rates the strength of evidence from studies in people for the uses listed: higher means stronger, more consistent research. It does not measure safety. It is not medical advice.

For education, not medical advice. Talk with a licensed clinician before you start, and never stop or change a prescribed medication without your prescriber.
