Safety Profile

Contraindications & Risks
Level 3 (ketogenic): pregnancy or breastfeeding, type 1 diabetes, eating disorder history, kidney disease, and anyone on blood sugar medication (the prescriber must adjust it first). Liver in pregnancy: limit because of high vitamin A. Cost and food prep time can be hard to sustain
Important Notes

Wahls reports going from a tilt-recline wheelchair to riding a bike. Small clinical studies, including a 2021 randomized trial of 87 people with relapsing-remitting MS comparing the Wahls and Swank diets, found less fatigue and better quality of life on both diets. It has not been shown to change the course of MS, so it goes alongside disease-modifying treatment, not instead of it.

About Evidence Score

The Evidence Score (0 to 100) rates the strength of evidence from studies in people for the uses listed: higher means stronger, more consistent research. It does not measure safety. It is not medical advice.

For education, not medical advice. Talk with a licensed clinician before you start, and never stop or change a prescribed medication without your prescriber.
