Gabriel's Approach

Whatever the cancer, Gabriel adds integrative care alongside your oncologist's plan and says honestly what the research shows. Exercise has the strongest proof, and guidelines back yoga, meditation and acupuncture for anxiety, nausea and pain. Mistletoe therapy, widely prescribed in Germany and Switzerland, may improve quality of life, with mixed evidence on survival. Regional hyperthermia with chemo or radiation helped in sarcoma and cervical cancer trials. IV vitamin C, immune-support mushroom extracts and repurposed drugs such as aspirin show mixed results. Ketogenic diets and detox are unproven, and ozone has no proof and real risks.

Root Causes

Metabolic dysfunction: obesity and type 2 diabetes raise the risk of several cancers; many tumors burn glucose fast (the Warburg effect), but every cell uses glucose, and cutting sugar has not been shown to slow cancer
Mitochondrial changes (common in tumors; whether they start cancer is unproven)
Chronic inflammation (long-standing inflammatory bowel disease or hepatitis raises cancer risk)
Immune dysfunction (transplant drugs or HIV raise the risk of some cancers)
Toxin exposure: tobacco smoke, alcohol, asbestos, radon and benzene
Chronic infections (HPV, hepatitis B and C, H. pylori, Epstein-Barr virus)
Nutrient deficiencies (low vitamin D is linked to cancer in observational studies; in a large trial, vitamin D pills did not lower cancer rates, though cancer deaths were slightly lower, possibly by chance)
Chronic stress/emotional trauma (whether stress causes cancer is not clear; in mice, stress sped tumor growth and spread)
Inherited gene changes, such as BRCA1, BRCA2 and Lynch syndrome
Hormonal imbalances (more lifetime estrogen exposure raises breast and endometrial cancer risk)

Why Conventional Fails

Standard Treatment

Surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, hormone therapy (depending on cancer type), palliative care.

The Problem

How much chemotherapy helps depends on the cancer. It cures most people whose testicular cancer has spread [Einhorn 2002, PNAS], and childhood leukemia 5-year survival rose from 50% to 89%, much of it through chemotherapy [ACS Cancer Statistics 2026]. For most advanced solid tumors the gain is small. Across adult cancers as a whole, one Australian and US estimate found that of every 100 adults diagnosed with one of the 22 most common cancers, only about 2 were alive at 5 years because of curative or post-surgery chemotherapy (2.3% in Australia, 2.1% in the US), a figure critics say understates the benefit in the groups who need it, since many of those adults were never given chemotherapy [Morgan 2004, Clin Oncol; Mileshkin 2005, Clin Oncol]. New cancer drugs approved in the US from 2000 to 2016 extended median survival by 2.4 months [Ladanie 2020, JAMA Netw Open], and 49% of the new cancer drug uses approved in Europe from 2009 to 2013 still had no proof of longer or better life about 5 years later [Davis 2017, BMJ]. Late in the illness, treatment can do more harm than good: a UK national review judged that treatment caused or hastened death in 27% of people who died within 30 days of it [NCEPOD 2008]. Harms can last, such as nerve damage in about 30% of people given chemotherapy drugs that can damage nerves, 6 months on [Seretny 2014, Pain]. And standard care gives less attention to what you can do alongside treatment, even though a 3-year exercise program after colon cancer chemotherapy raised 5-year survival free of recurrence or new cancer from 73.9% to 80.3% in a randomized trial [Courneya 2025, NEJM].

IV Therapy

$150-350 per session

IV vitamins and nutrients have no proof against cancer. Antioxidants taken during chemotherapy were linked to a possible higher risk of recurrence in one study, so ask your oncology team first.

Recommended Supplements

Vitamin D3 up to 4,000 IU a day if your level is low (the adult upper limit); retest and stay within Gabriel's optimal 50-75 ng/mL
Curcumin up to 2g/day, the dose found safe with chemo in a small trial (ask your oncology team during chemo or radiation: it blunted some chemo drugs in lab studies; rare liver injury; stop if dark urine or yellow eyes)
Omega-3 (EPA and DHA) 2-4g/day (4g a day slightly raised atrial fibrillation in trials; ask your oncology team if you take a blood thinner such as warfarin or have AFib)
Vitamin K2 MK-7 200mcg (not with warfarin unless your doctor adjusts it: vitamin K can weaken warfarin)
Modified Citrus Pectin 15g/day
Melatonin 0.5-5mg at bedtime for sleep (20mg did not improve appetite or weight in advanced cancer in one trial, or survival with chemo in another)
Medicinal Mushrooms (Turkey Tail, Reishi, Cordyceps)
Berberine 500mg 3x/day (ask your oncology team during chemo: it slows how the liver clears many drugs; not in pregnancy or breastfeeding)
Alpha-Lipoic Acid 600mg once a day (higher doses added nausea without more benefit; ask your oncology team before using during chemo or radiation)
Glutathione IV (ask your oncology team before using during chemo or radiation)
IP6 2-4g/day

Dietary Guidance

Ketogenic diet (unproven against cancer in people), intermittent fasting or fasting-mimicking diet (unproven), cut sugar and refined carbs, no processed foods, organic only, increase cruciferous vegetables, medicinal mushrooms, green tea daily, turmeric/ginger, fermented foods, bone broth, high-quality protein, healthy fats. During treatment, keep your weight and protein up, since unplanned weight loss is common and harmful; plan any restrictive diet with your oncology team.

Lifestyle Factors

Stress management (whether stress causes cancer is not clear, though in mice it sped tumor growth and spread; guidelines back mindfulness for anxiety and quality of life), 8-9 hours sleep, regular exercise (the strongest proof of anything here: guidelines back it during and after treatment), sunlight exposure without burning, sauna for relaxation (a sauna is not clinical hyperthermia, which is given with chemotherapy or radiation in a hospital), cold exposure (untested in cancer), meditation/emotional healing work, social support/community, purpose and meaning (they help quality of life; an effect on survival is unproven).

Mind, Body & Spirit

Evidence-based practices that complement physical treatment protocols

Mind

Visualization & Guided Imagery

moderate

Calming imagery may ease anxiety and help with coping (guidelines back relaxation with imagery for anxiety and mood); it has not been shown to shrink cancer or change survival.

Meditation for Cancer Patients

strong

Guidelines recommend mindfulness-based programs such as MBSR for anxiety, depression and quality of life in people with cancer.

Body

Forest Bathing (Shinrin-Yoku)

emerging

Time in nature lowered stress measures in small studies, some of which also found higher natural killer cell activity; no effect on cancer has been shown.

Gentle Yoga

moderate

Guidelines back yoga for anxiety and quality of life in people with cancer; adapt it to your treatment.

Spirit

Psychedelic End-of-Life Therapy

emerging

Psilocybin therapy for existential distress and anxiety in terminal illness.

Art Therapy
