EBOO Therapy.

What it is

EBOO (extracorporeal blood oxygenation and ozonation) is an advanced form of ozone therapy. In a closed loop, blood is drawn from one arm, passed through a filter, exposed to oxygen and medical ozone, and returned through the other arm. A session treats about 1.5 to 2 liters of blood over 45 to 60 minutes, much more than standard ozone autohemotherapy.

Practitioners use it for complex chronic illness, such as Lyme disease, chronic viral infections and autoimmune or circulation problems, often after other care hasn't helped. Research is still early, with mostly small studies and clinical experience.

What happens at a visit

1. A health assessment and lab work beforehand.
2. An IV line placed in each arm.
3. Blood circulates through the EBOO device for 45 to 60 minutes.
4. Staff monitor your vital signs throughout.
5. A rest period and fluids before you go home.
6. Some people feel tired or achy for a day or so afterward.

Evidence and safety

Evidence for EBOO comes from small studies and clinical experience, and it hasn't been tested in large trials. It should be done only by physicians trained in the procedure, with proper equipment and monitoring. Because blood circulates outside the body, risks include bleeding, bruising, clotting and infection at the IV sites. People who are pregnant or have a bleeding disorder, G6PD deficiency or serious heart disease should check with a physician first.
