What it is

Wrinkle relaxers are injections of botulinum toxin type A, sold as Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Jeuveau. Small, precise doses relax the muscles behind expression lines, such as forehead lines, the frown lines between the brows and crow's feet, so those lines soften.

They also have medical uses, including chronic migraine, heavy sweating, and jaw clenching or a wide jawline from strong masseter muscles. A visit takes 10 to 15 minutes. Results start in 3 to 5 days, peak at about 2 weeks and last 3 to 4 months.

Evidence and safety
