How to get semaglutide online

The legal way to get semaglutide online is a telehealth visit with a licensed clinician, who decides whether to prescribe it, and a state-licensed pharmacy that fills the prescription. Every dose of Wegovy and Ozempic requires a prescription, whether you pay cash or use insurance.

The FDA has found counterfeit Ozempic in the U.S. supply and warns against sellers that skip the prescription, sell "research" semaglutide, or use semaglutide salt forms such as semaglutide sodium or acetate.

The steps

  1. Request a visit. A licensed clinician reviews your health history, medications, weight and goals, usually by an online form, message or video.
  2. The clinician decides whether semaglutide fits, which form (weekly pen or daily pill for brand Wegovy), and whether anything makes it unsafe for you.
  3. A licensed pharmacy fills it: the manufacturer's self-pay pharmacy, your insurance pharmacy, or a pharmacy that prepares compounded medication.
  4. Follow-ups to check side effects and progress. Your clinician decides the dose and when to change it.

Who semaglutide is prescribed for

Semaglutide is sold as Wegovy (weight management, and lowering the risk of heart attack and stroke in adults with heart disease and obesity or overweight) and Ozempic (type 2 diabetes). For weight management, NIDDK says adults generally qualify with a BMI of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with a weight-related condition. The Wegovy pen is also approved for children 12 and older with obesity; the Wegovy pill is for adults.

Your clinician will probably advise against it if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2. Tell them about pancreatitis, gallbladder or kidney disease, diabetic eye disease, severe stomach problems, or a pregnancy plan. MedlinePlus advises stopping semaglutide 2 months before a planned pregnancy.

FDA warnings about online semaglutide

  • Counterfeits. The FDA has found fake Ozempic in the U.S. drug supply.
  • Salt forms. Semaglutide sodium and semaglutide acetate are different active ingredients from the one in approved drugs. The FDA knows of no lawful basis for using them in compounding.
  • "Research use" products. Some are sold to consumers with dosing instructions. Their quality is unknown, and the FDA urges people not to buy them.
  • Dosing errors. Self-measured or miscalculated doses from multi-dose vials have led to hospitalizations.
  • Misleading telehealth claims. The FDA warns against claims that a compounded drug is FDA-approved, proven to match a brand drug's results, or made in an "FDA-approved" pharmacy. The FDA does not approve or license those pharmacies.

A safe online pharmacy requires a prescription, is licensed by a state board of pharmacy, and has a U.S. address and a licensed pharmacist you can reach.
